Sophia's Story
Sophia was a regular 3 year old child whose only exposure to the medical world was at her immunization appointments and well child checks, all this soon changed when Sophia started to get headaches which hurt so bad that no matter how much or how strong the pain reliever was, the pain did not subside. It got so bad that her family loaded her up and drove 4 hours to the nearest Children's Hospital where she was diagnosed on a Thursday with a tumor and by that next Monday she was undergoing an eight hour surgery to remove the tumor. Thank God the neurosurgeon was able to remove this huge tumor. It went from the top of the Fourth Ventricle all the way down to her 3rd vertebra in her neck. She underwent 33 radiation treatments which required that she and all of her family relocate for 2 months. She has had check ups every four months and the cancer/tumor has not been back. She has no emotional, physical or mental problems which can be often associated with brain tumors. Praise God that she is doing so well. If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with a brain tumor, it is okay to cry, hurt and just feel exhausted by what you are going through. My advice is to pray and to look to everyone in your family and community for support. You need it and there are so many people out there that want to share their resources in this time of crisis in your life.
