Hear Our Song Musical

The new musical Hear Our Song brings a unique concept both to the world of theater and charitable giving. It is an original idea created, written and developed solely as a fundraising vehicle. Everyone involved—the creators, writers, musical arranger, musical director, all talent, sound and lighting personnel, graphic designers, and publicist are offering their time and talent free of charge. 100 percent of the ticket price will go the Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation, at its December 1, 2007 performance at Edgemont Community Theatre in Edgemont, New York.
Students from Edgemont High School are participating in master classes on theater and marketing as well as acting as production assistants in the performances, all conducted by The Harmony Entertainment Group and members of the production.
Brain and spinal cord tumors are the deadliest childhood disease in the United States. More children die of brain and spinal cord tumors than from any other disease and the rate of death is higher than in any other childhood disease. What’s more, children who survive oftentimes face a lifetime of effects from surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, ranging from normal development to cognitive impairment to physical disabilities. Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation, a non-profit organization, was founded in 1988 by dedicated parents, physicians and friends dedicated to helping children and families dealing with brain and spinal cord tumors. Today, it provides insight, support, respite and hope through services offered nationwide.
Hear Our Song is the story of five women, ages 20 to 60, sharing the ages and stages of their lives, their neuroses and catharses, in a humorous and personal way that will make everyone smile and nod their heads in the commonality and comfort of our similar experiences. In addition, Hear Our Song features 17 of the best songs from Gershwin, Kander and Ebb, Sondheim, Shire, J.R. Brown, Stephen Schwartz, Elton John, and more.
Hear Our Song boasts some of Broadway’s finest, giving of their time and talent. Musical director and arranger Jonathan Ido Friedman, admitted into the college division of the Juilliard School of Music at age 17, has won numerous awards including the Hecht Foundation Award from 1999-2004 and has played in Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall and Paul Hall, and Jordan Concert Hall (Boston). The book is written by Susan DiLallo, recipient of the coveted Kleban Foundation Award, given annually to “the most promising librettist in American musical theater.”
